The future research direction is based on the vision that the new European industrial model will be characterized by increase of complexity of the European industrial environment, enhancement of human and social role in organizations, use of a new generation of machine tools, as indispensable for true innovations and sustainability, development and establishment of the meta-enterprise organizations as the prevailing future new industrial environments, or infrastructures, and new enterprise organizational forms, as operational and generative enablers of the enterprises and social entrepreneurship, innovation, sustainability, and growth, as well as.
The future research directions follow the recommendations and directions published by the EC and national bodies, as e.g. EC FP7 ‘Work Programmes’ and “MANUFUTURE – a vision for 2020 - Assuring the future of manufacturing in Europe” (EC, 2004).
The future research will aim at RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT and INTRODUCTION of the new manufacturing system paradigm, including new generation of machine tools, around the following generic themes:
UBIQUITOUS PRODUCTION SYSTEMS AND ENTERPRISES – as the 2nd Generation of Virtual Enterprises, following BM_VE Architecture Reference Model.

NEW GENERATION OF LOW COST MACHINE TOOLS AND VIRTUAL MACHINE TOOLS
All the themes referred will follow two innovative meta-theoretical frameworks for specification and development of the new European industrial models, implying totally new generation of the system(s) (models). These are:
Organizational Semiotics – implies consideration of the enterprise systems on 6 levels, i.e. the ‘physical world’, ‘empirics’, ‘syntax’, ‘semantics’, ‘pragmatics’ and ‘social’ levels, with special attention to the levels of ‘pragmatics’ and ‘social’ level is addressed relatively limitedly);
Chaos and Complexity Management in Organizations discipline, through the Chaordic System Thinking (CST) paradigm
The concrete projects will be defined in accordance with the specific ‘Calls’ to which the proposals will be submitted.
